Mountain Bike Parts
Mountain bike parts, though similar looking to other bike parts and components, are actually built much tougher and stronger than regular road and cruiser components. The reason is obvious, rocks, dirt, and mud are much harder on parts than smooth roads and sidewalks. Those bumps and drops take a serious toll on parts whether they are simple bolts or complex front and rear derailleur’s.
Mountain bike parts have to be able to function properly in the worst of conditions. Mud or water on the brakes can greatly reduce stopping power which is why many mountain bike manufacturers and riders have largely started using disc brakes which keep the braking surface away from puddles, mud and debris and often have special pads that will work in the worst weather just in case.
Mountain bike parts can be found wherever mountain bikes are sold. Some of the leading companies are Shimano, which also makes a large amount of road and cruiser components as well, and Sram, which specializes in mountain biking parts and components. Each company has many levels of performance and prices for their products to meet the needs of almost any mountain biker.
