Bike Parts

When bike parts are combined correctly they turn into a functional mechanical transportation vehicle that requires no fuel, little maintenance, and is low in cost. The main part is the frame, but each part is absolutely necessary for the machine to function. After the frame has been chosen the next choice is the wheels which should be paired with a suitable tire and tube.

The next piece in the list of bike parts is often the suspension on mountain bikes or front fork on road bikes. Full suspension bikes will need a rear shock as well. Now the bike can roll, but still cannot be steered, stopped or pedaled. Handle bars are next, the brake handles will also attach here before the brakes are connected to the front fork and rear down tube. Make sure to adjust the calipers and pads for optimum stopping power.

The most complex of all the bike parts is the drive train which consists of a chain ring with pedals attached to the bottom bracket and gears attached to the rear wheel hub. The chain connects them together allowing the rider to pedal and power the rear wheel. Add a front a rear derailleur to change into different gear ratios for climbing and descending, and a shifter to the handle bars to complete the basic bicycle package.
